Five At a Time – Call of the North

Working to focus.

Mind runs north while sitting south.

The loons call me home.

Five At a Time – Smoke Stories

Grey sits, staying low.

Never lifting, always so.

Ever on it goes.

Five At a Time – Red Hill Blooms

A walk around the scrub on a hot and breezy spring ish morning can provide for a number of unique experiences. One day, you’ll see wood ducks fly from a roost with no water anywhere in sight, retaking their names at the expense of their future. Another day, you’ll see a bear rush from one narrowing dense patch to the next, wondering why there’s suddenly so many gaps in his home. A different day yet, you’ll see bees and beatles frantically trying to flit from one plant to the next, racing the inevitable clock that ticks in all our lives, demanding us to move faster before time runs on too long.

Today was a bit of all of those days. But mostly, there were just flowers.

Five At a Time – It’s Totally Easy…

DSC_8274-2Being a Green Treefrog.  The habitat description on this page should also include “occasionally found attached to the back of a paddle board which is leaned up behind a herpetology lab…”

Five At a Time – Hoppy Heron

DSC_8468Don’t fooled by the (beautiful) plumage, this is an immature Little Blue Heron.  It was very windy on my canal this weekend, so the little dude had to to all he could to keep his feathers straight and not fall off the rail.  Which made for an entertaining show!

Five At a Time – A Frog That Barks (and Changes Its Spots)

DSC_8320This is a Barking Treefrog (yes, it does bark, sort of… click the link to learn more and hear the sound).  As if that wasn’t cool enough, the little fat dude can change color.  Scroll through the slideshow below to see how the same frog goes from brown speckledish on pavement to bright green on a palm leaf, all in less than 15 minutes.  Super cool (and super green).
